The Creative Stitchers Club is comprised of a group of creative individuals devoting their time and talents to the many forms of fiber arts including:

  • Sewing

  • Quilting

  • Knitting

  • Crocheting

  • Needlework

  • Felting

Members of Creative Stitchers are active within the Carriage Manor community.  Members support many volunteer activities within and outside Carriage Manor.  The stitchers provide quilts through Comfort Makers, the Knitters and Crocheters provide Knitted Knockers to cancer survivors. Additionally, throughout each season there are opportunities to support nonprofit groups.

During Carriage Manor Days activities, Creative Stitchers offers handmade items for sale as well as many individually crafted items.  One of the highlights for the group is the auctioning off of quilts made by members.

Sewing arts is integral to Creative Stitchers.  The group has a beautifully equipped sewing room.  There is one Juki and ten Janome sewing machines. In addition there is a serger and two sewing machines for use by nonmembers of Creative Stitchers.  In 2021, a long arm quilting machine was added to the sewing room for use by members.  Two large cutting tables and an array of quilting and sewing tools are available for use.  Nonmembers are also welcome to use the sewing room for their sewing and quilting needs and guidelines for use are available in the sewing room.

There are always opportunities to learn new skills and create items in the many classes offered by both members of Creative Stitchers and outside instructors.  Throughout the season, there is a large variety of classes.

The Comfort Makers meet weekly to create hand tied quilts.  This group makes quilts with the sole mission being charitable.  The quilts they create are hospitals, various nonprofit groups and individuals inside and outside of Carriage Manor.

This group enjoys the satisfaction of knowing they will play a small part in creating a bit of comfort for others.

Every season the Comfort Makers have donated upwards of 100 quilts.

KNITTING AND CROCHETING

KNITTING AND CROCHETING

There's always something happening with the knitters and crocheters.  This group meets Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 pm in the Creative Stitchers classroom  adjacent to the sewing room.

Individuals work on individual projects, learn how to knit or crochet, work on charity projects, take occasional field trips and maybe just catch up on the latest news around the park  If an individual is new to knitting or crocheting, there is plenty of yarn, knitting needles and crochet hooks to get you started.

One long-standing charity project this group has participated in is making "knitted knockers" - soft cotton knitted breast prostheses for women who have had breast cancer surgery.  Along with our partner, Tempe Yarn Shop, donations are made to a variety of resources.

The knitters and crocheters plan to start making hats and booties for military families, unwed mothers and local hospitals.  The group is always looking for ways to contribute to needs outside of Carriage Manor.
